“Only strong, healthy animals reared under animal-friendly conditions guarantee the best quality meat!”

The Bahlmann calves are raised on carefully selected German farms near our company. Here the calves can grow up in group housing and with feed from our own production.

The farms are supported by our experienced calf trading company and monitored by independent institutes. This ensures that the animals are kept in a way that is appropriate for their welfare and that the origin of the animals is guaranteed. Since the end of 2002, all Bahlmann breeding farms have carried the QS (quality and safety) seal of approval and are members of the German Veal Control Association .

After the calves have been purchased, the animals are sorted in the collective barn on the Bahlmann company premises by gender, breed, age and weight, among other things, so that evenly sized groups are housed on the farms. The conditions of care comply with the German KHV and are considered to be the strictest in all of Europe.

Regular modernization and renovation measures in the production facilities ensure compliance with the strict guidelines. Neutral institutes and the state veterinary authority ensure compliance with animal-friendly rearing through unannounced inspections by checking health status, stable conditions and climate, freedom of movement and care of the calves.

An important prerequisite for natural veal is the natural, nutrient-rich diet of the animals. Only feed from our own production is used for rearing. In addition to (milk replacer plus valuable vegetable liquid fat), the calves are given roughage such as straw cobs, calf muesli and calf grain to eat freely.

This results in healthy, resilient calves.
